On Thursday, August 22nd, the Ainsworth Girls Golf team started their competition season at the O’Neill Invitational tournament. The long yardages and tree-lined fairways on this course consistently provide challenges for the golfers. In spite of the windy conditions, the Ainsworth golfers posted some competitive scores for the start of the season. The varsity results are as follows: Braylin R. - 125 Jordan B. - 129 Jaden L. - 139 Hannah B. - 149 Terra S. - 155 Jordan and Terra saw 14 and 11 stroke improvements from their 18-hole scores at this tournament last year. Two golfers were able to represent Ainsworth in JV competition. Madison P. carded a 137, and Grace G. posted a 160 on the day. The team looks forward to a busy week with the West Holt scramble on Tuesday, August 27th and the Ainsworth Invite on Thursday, August 29th with a 9:30 AM shotgun start at the Ainsworth Golf Course.

As this is the first year of after-school sports practices, we want to remind everyone that all middle school practices will conclude by 6:00 PM on Wednesdays, following school policy. If your student needs to miss practice or leave early, such as for church activities, please have them speak with the coach in advance. We understand these commitments, and it will not be a problem.

On Thursday, August 15th, the sixth graders learned about the American Burying Beetle (ABB). This species is threatened, but doing pretty well in the Nebraska Sandhills. Our guest speaker, Jen Corman, is a wildlife biologist with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. She showed us some beetles that are similar to the ABB, but not threatened. It was very interesting!
