5th graders are learning about what the colonists did when they first came to the New World. They are trying to find a location to settle and start their own colony. Working together and agreeing (sometimes disagreeing) to find the perfect place to start a colony is not as easy as it sounds. Once a location is settled the next group cannot settle there. This made it more difficult for the colonists that were "arriving later". They used problem solving strategies to agree on a location, discuss different occupations each one had, and why they wanted to settle in a certain place.
